Ethics/ Essential Works / Michel Foucault

'What is philosophy if not a way of reflecting, not so much what is true and false, as on our relationship to truth? ... The movement by which one detaches oneself from what is true and seeks other rules - that is philosophy' The first of three volumes of collected works, Ethics consists of two sections. The first reproduces the summaries Foucault composed for the courses he taught as Professor of History of Systems of Thought at the Collège de France. These vivid statements of philosophical intent offer considerable insight into Foucault's academic and intellectual schema, revealing a fascination with subjective truth and the power relationships created by control of that truth, and an abiding interest in outsiders - social, sexual and psychological.
